Learning to Dance Again – a poem

learning to dance again imageI got away from you!

And I lost my rhythm
And my blues.

I don’t know how to dance any more.

I’m standing in the middle
Awkwardly.  Every move is stiff.

Weird.

I hear music
And I still like it.

But my sways are backwards
My steps are shaky.

You took my rhythm
And my blues.

So I’m smiling.
Haltingly.

One foot in. One hand out.
Shake it.

Feels strange, right?

I guess I have to learn
To dance to a better tune.

This drum is different.
I get that.

My feet and the beat don’t know each other yet.

But I suspect, once I learn
There’s gonna be

A goddamn encore.
